A Day in the Life of a Dog Boarder

Do you wonder what your dog gets up to while you are on your holiday?

I get it; I’m just the same, and I know from experience how important it is to use a trustworthy – and kind – home boarder. Much as I love a good holiday, I need to know that my precious girl is having a great time while I’m away.

At Woodland Wags, dogs are our life and our whole family is involved in looking after them.

So here’s a little peak behind the scenes, the good, the bad and the poo!

Our day often begins at 5am hearing snuffling or little bark from downstairs, let the pooing begin… Yep, we spend a lot of time picking up poo, the least glamourous side of our job.

First things first we try to grab a cuppa, normally joined on the couch by our furry visitors, jostling for the best cuddles.  At the last gulp everyone leaps up heading for the kitchen, its breakfast time, for them not us!

The dogs go nuts as we head out for the morning walk, 7 am normally, earlier if it’s a hot day.  Rain, shine or snow our visitors look forward to discovering which adventure we are having today, woods, fields, or rivers.  Sniffing, chasing and zoomies are the order of the day.  Walks end with a watering and a towel off if the English weather has done its thing.

Morning snoozes are followed by treats & lunch.  Summer involves prepping frozen treats to help keep the dog cool and some dogs need special treats due to allergies.

Afternoon walkies mean a trip to a dog paddock for some Parkour fun or agility, or perhaps a cool walk in the woods with some agility games over fallen trees, more sniffing of course and some recall practice.  On hot days our garden is shrouded in gazebos and umbrellas and walks are substituted by enrichment sessions consisting of water play, bubbles, and some search/find it work.  For the lazier dogs a afternoon kip on the sun loungers or some chilling in the playhouses.  There’s often a rush for these coveted spots.

Dinner is served in slow-down bowls, snuffles mat, & lickie mats, or scatter fed in the garden.  Then for us it’s more washing up and cleaning….  Are you getting the picture that our job is super glamourous?

After their dinner (and ours) it’s a chance to send pic updates to owners, do some grooming sessions and of course lots more cuddles……

Before we know it, bedtime rolls around!  This means making sure each dog has its teddy or blanket from home and its special place in the house.  For new pups, that first night can be tricky, so if they don’t settle then it’s a night on the couch for one of us!  Zzzzzzz
